Custom Cabinets

Context:
We had to cancel plumbing, relocate thermostat, and finish tile floor prior to installing cabinets. The cabinets in the area below the staircase required speciality drawer glides/hardware to accommodate the extra deep drawers. The cabinet had a custom therma-foil finish.

Scope:
Demo and haul away partially remaining cabinets in living room built-in bar area. Install new custom cabinets.

A. Demolition and Site Preparation

Timeline: 1 day

  • Carefully remove and haul away all remaining existing cabinetry and debris from the living room bar area.

  • Protect surrounding finishes (floors, walls, staircase, adjacent furniture) during demolition.

  • Patch and prepare wall surfaces as needed after cabinet removal.

  • Cap any abandoned plumbing lines related to the previous bar sink, ensuring code-compliant termination.

B. Pre-Installation Modifications and Preparation

Timeline: 2–3 days

  • Plumbing Cancellation:

    • Remove or permanently cap existing water and drain plumbing to eliminate unused sink lines.

    • Ensure wall and floor areas are properly patched and ready for cabinetry installation.

  • Thermostat Relocation:

    • Remove and reinstall the existing thermostat to a new location per Client approval and HVAC manufacturer guidelines.

    • Run any new low-voltage wiring as necessary, patch old thermostat location.

  • Tile Flooring Completion:

    • Prepare subfloor as needed where cabinets were previously removed.

    • Install matching tile flooring in the open bar area to ensure a continuous floor surface.

    • Grout and finish tile to match existing finish as closely as practicable.

C. Cabinet Installation

Timeline: 3–4 days

  • Deliver and inspect custom cabinets for damage and fit prior to installation.

  • Install new custom cabinetry in bar area, ensuring:

    • Cabinets are level, plumb, securely fastened to wall studs and/or blocking.

    • Precise fit under the staircase where cabinet dimensions may be irregular.

  • Install specialty drawer glides and hardware for extra-deep drawers under the staircase:

    • Heavy-duty slides rated appropriately for extended drawer length and weight.

    • Adjust drawer glides to ensure smooth, stable operation.

  • Handle and install cabinetry with care to maintain custom Therma-foil finish integrity.

    • Prevent scratches, heat exposure, or surface delamination during install.

D. Finishing Touches and Final Adjustments

Timeline: 1–2 days

  • Install cabinet hardware (pulls, knobs) per approved layout.

  • Make final adjustments to doors and drawers for proper alignment and functionality.

  • Perform thorough cleaning of cabinetry surfaces and surrounding areas.

  • Conduct a final walk-through with Client to verify fit, finish, and operation.

Overall Project Timeline Estimate:

Approximately 7–10 working days, depending on cabinet delivery timing, site conditions, and specialty hardware installation needs.
